Track whether a group of feeder cattle is on track between starting weight, current weight and target weight.
Enter your group details, dates and expected average daily gain to see actual growth, days remaining and whether the pen is ahead or behind plan.
Enter starting weight, current weight, target weight, dates and planned average daily gain (ADG). The calculator shows actual average daily gain (ADG), expected weight for today, days remaining, estimated finish date and whether your South African feeder cattle batch is on track, ahead or behind plan between weigh-ins.
Enter the number of animals, start date, starting average weight, current date, current average weight, target weight and expected average daily gain (ADG). You can optionally add feed cost per animal per day and expected selling price per kg live weight.
The calculator shows actual average daily gain (ADG), weight difference from plan, progress percentage, days remaining, estimated finish date, on-track status and optional feed cost and live value estimates.
Results are planning estimates only. Check them against your pen records, ration changes, health events and local market prices.
Days on feed so far = days between start date and current date
Weight gained per animal (kg) = current weight − starting weight
Actual average daily gain (ADG) = weight gained ÷ days on feed
Expected current weight (kg) = starting weight + (planned ADG × days on feed)
Weight still needed (kg) = target weight − current weight
Days remaining = weight still needed ÷ actual ADG (if still below target)
Progress (%) = (current weight − starting weight) ÷ (target weight − starting weight) × 100
A group of 50 feeder cattle started at 220 kg on 1 March. After 90 days the group averages 310 kg against a 480 kg target. Planned average daily gain (ADG) was 1.2 kg per day, so expected weight is 328 kg — the pen is about 18 kg behind plan. Actual ADG is 1.0 kg per day (90 kg gained ÷ 90 days). With 170 kg still to gain, about 170 days remain at current growth unless ration or health improves.
It compares where your feeder cattle are now against where you expected them to be. Enter starting weight, current weight, target weight, dates and planned average daily gain to see actual growth, days remaining and a simple on-track status for the group.
Use this tool during the finishing period — after weigh-in at arrival, at routine pen checks, or before deciding whether to extend days on feed. It helps you spot pens falling behind before feed costs and yard time stack up.
Small shortfalls in average daily gain add extra days on feed, more feed cost and more pen risk. Checking progress mid-batch lets you adjust rations, health management or selling plans before the group drifts far from target.

Subtract the starting average weight from the current average weight, then divide by the number of days on feed between the start date and current date.
It is the weight the group should have reached if they had grown at your planned average daily gain from the start date to the current date.
The calculator divides the weight still needed to reach target by the actual average daily gain so far, then adds that to the current date. If the group is already at target weight, the finish date is the current date.
On track means the group is close to the expected weight. Slightly behind or behind target means they are below plan. Ahead of target means they are above the expected weight for the days on feed so far.
No. Optional cost and value results are planning estimates only. Actual feed use, prices and market values will vary.
